Top 6 Best places to elope in Maine

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is a perfect combination of all of Maine’s wonderful landscapes which makes it one of the best places to elope in Maine. From stunning cliffs to mountain summits, pristine lakes, sandy beaches, waterfalls, and so much more, you could spend weeks exploring everything the park has to offer and still not get bored. The best part is that some of Acadia’s best locations are hidden secrets, meaning you’ll be able to soak in the stunning views with the love of your life, tucked away from other park visitors. If you’re not sure about the landscape you want to elope in or if you want a “best of both worlds” experience, Acadia National Park is for you.

Acadia is also known for its stunning foggy conditions that happen very often in the park. There is almost a 50/50 chance you'll see those foggy conditions during your elopement! When you see these conditions, the park feels so much quieter, peaceful, and is a favorite among many visitors. If fog isn't what you're looking for, don't worry. One day the park can be covered in a thick layer of fog and the next day it can be clear blue skies!

Baxter State Park

Home to Mount Katahdin, the last summit of the Appalachian Trail, Baxter State Park is the perfect location for couples looking for a sense of adventure on their wedding day! The park has a huge variety of hiking trails, lakes, rivers, wildlife, and so many activities like camping, kayaking, and rock climbing to name a few.

If the idea of hiking 6-12 miles on your wedding day doesn’t seem like an epic adventure, don’t worry! The park is also home to a number of stunning day hikes and walks that still highlight the jaw-dropping views the park has to offer. This is one of my favorite Maine elopement locations!

Downtown Portland | Portland Old Port

If you’re looking for an exciting courthouse elopement, look no further than Portland Maine! The Old Port is the perfect combination of historical New England feels with gorgeous brick buildings and cobblestone streets mixed with upbeat and exciting city vibes. Not to mention the stunning waterfront views the city is perched upon!

Start by getting ready in one of the many hotels in the city, followed by a courthouse elopement at the beautiful city hall. Afterward, spend the afternoon walking through the streets, heading over to one of the many nearby beaches, and end the night with dinner at one of the many spectacular restaurants. Portland has the second-highest number of restaurants per capita in the county. With over 300 restaurants to choose from, Portland is home to some of the best food in New England.

From rocky cliffs to sandy beaches, the diversity of the Maine coast allows for a variety of Maine elopement locations! With how close in proximity they are to each other, you can definitely visit more than one! Southern Maine is the perfect destination if you want an intimate ceremony but also want to be close to a bustling downtown for a fun and exciting reception.

Depending on the beach that you choose, a permit may be required to hold your ceremony. It's always better to check the website or call ahead to double-check before your wedding day. For example, all of the wedding information for Portland Headlight is linked here on their website.

Bold Coast Maine

The true hidden gem of Maine is the Bold Coast. There are so many gorgeous locations that even locals don’t know about. The Bold Coast is home to ancient glacial forests, picturesque ocean cliffs, incredible wildlife, and lighthouses. Some of the best locations to take in these views are along Cutler Coast Trail, Quoddy Head State Park, and Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park!

Grafton Notch State Park is home to some of the most spectacular mountains in Maine. If you're looking for a quiet mountaintop elopement or a backpacking trip through the Maine mountains, look no further! The state park has hikes ranging from difficult to easy.
